The terrible flooding currently being experienced up in Cumbria is a stark reminder of how improtant our Essex seawalls are... The Essex sea defences take on the twice daily high tides, day after day, week after week, and have done for centuries, so it is easy to forget the devastation that could be caused by over-topping or breaching through lack of maintenance.
